Find out more about what has been called “Super Super Sunday” over the jump.
Welcome to June (yip, I know), and the latest edition of the roundup. We start this week with a correction from last week and continue to look at the amazing performances from the club. Now that we’re getting into the summer, I like to go to the parks and play chess with older, bald men – the only issue is that it’s getting tougher to find 32 of them! Moving on shall we?
Newry City 10k
Let’s kick off this week with an apology to Lorraine and Rebecca, two of our newest club members who’ve joined the club in the last few months. Last Sunday, they were also in Newry, and ran the 10 kilometre race that day…
That is really fantastic running ladies – times to be proud of! Rebecca, congratulations on your PB on the day too! On a personal note, thanks for the cheer over the line on the half marathon last Sunday too, and sorry for forgetting about you two! It’ll never happen again*!
EAH Trail Race 2 – Tardree
Last Tuesday saw the second race in the East Antrim Harrier trail race series in Tardree Forrest. The route out was uphill, so back in was the more fun downhill, and once again we had our two representatives taking part…
Congratulations to both of you! James just missed out on the top spot, after lunging for a line a little too early and Maureen was top in her age category! A great night all around for everyone!
Belfast Hills 8.8k
“The hills are alive with the sound of… Brian”! Our very own club leader took to the (slightly shorted) tough Belfast Hills route, lots of climbs and descents up by Belfast Castle and Cavehill. Let’s see how he got on:
Well done Brian! That is a great time on a tough course, on a rotten day too. That course is supposed to be really tough – a great challenge, especially for a Saturday morning. He was so proud of himself, he even sent through a photo for us all…
Walled City Marathon
Sunday morning saw the third annual Walled City Marathon take place in Derry City. The route begins in a forest park, before heading out towards the border, back in towards the city, across the new Peace Bridge and though to finish in the heart of the city. We had
I have to say I am a very proud of all the Dubs on Sunday in my wee home city. Fantastic running all round – especially as they experienced all four seasons in one day! Special nods to Collette who was the third female across the line, taking the final podium spot! PBs from Dale and Sil too! I hope you all had a great time partying afterwards! More pictures to follow, I’ve still to get them sorted.
It was another cool Saturday morning (could some tell the weather that it is June), but that didn’t stop the club getting out in our masses to participate the weekly ritual. Let’s have a look at the results:
|Kathy MAYHEW||00:25:07||New PB!|
|Jane Catherine PATTERSON||00:28:04|
|Danielle MCCLUSKEY||00:26:16||New PB!|
|Roisin BYRNE||00:25:00||New PB!|
Fantastic running by everyone! Special mentions this week to Kathy (Victoria) and Danielle (Orneau) on their PB runs over the weekend, also one first timer PB this week goes to Roisin (Bangor). Derry City haven’t gotten their results online yet, but Ivor and Ronan where there at the 100th event in the city to represent the club!
Another great week for the club – everyone is doing the club proud right now. Please let me know if you are doing a race, I might forget (it is really easy, just ask Lorraine and Rebecca) – so I want to make sure that I get you included. Good news this week, my cat has just signed an autobiographical book deal… it is a nine book deal!
Keep on running!
Live long and prosper.
