From great local runs to the Great North Run – all the results are here!
A bit of a quiet week this week for the club, but still some greats runs and races to report from. I have a polite request to make – if one more person asks me to do a somersault… I swear I’m going to flip! Enough of that let’s look at the results…
Ards Lions 5 Mile Road Race
Friday evening saw the running of the Ards Lions Five Mile Road Race which takes place around the area of the Ards Half Marathon (for those who remember that race)!! The route was an undulating first four miles which gradually climbed – before a very welcome downhill mile towards the finish! We had one club member taking part:
A fantastic top ten finish for you Niall, a great time on a tough, relentless course. Let’s not forget that your time is a wee PB too over the distance!
Great North Run
This is a race that needs no introduction! Huh? Oh, this is the largest half marathon in the world which is in run in North East England – Newcastle upon Tyne. The course starts on the edge of the city centre, heads east and south down the motorway, crosses the Tyne Bridge into Gateshead, out towards the seafront and finishes at South Shields. A certain Mo and one club member took part:
What an impressive time and some great running Dale! I hope that you took some time after to rest (and enjoy yourself) after those 13.1 miles! We even have a great photo of you keeping pace near the front…
It was a mixed bag of the weather on Saturday morning for the weekly Parkrun events! With marathon training taking in full swing for a lot of club members right now, some of the other club members decided to take to the parks and enjoy a fresh 5k run on Saturday morning!

Woo-who! Fantastic running by everyone, they say that it gets easier – it really does not! So really well done each and everyone of you! One special mention this week going to Mike (at Whitley Bay) – who completed his 40th different Parkrun on his way to his 50 t-shirt … just ten more Parkruns to go now!
Another great week for the club, excellent times all round by everyone! Keep up the training now as we move into the autumnal months and the temperature starts to drop – we’re here every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday! I had a bit of a mad week, the missus let some aquatic mammals loose in the house – it was otter chaos!
Keep on running!
Live long and prosper.
