Some cross-country and parkrun updates from the club – more over the jump!
Welcome to another week, and another roundup of what we have all been up to. I hope that the brave souls who took to the trail paths of Divis mountain on Sunday enjoyed their new route! I am a bit down today as my missus is leaving me because of my obsession Motown music – she didn’t even tell me herself – I heard it through the grapevine! Let’s check out the results…
McConnell Shield XC
Our off-season cross country continued on Saturday afternoon. The 5k race was held in (surpriseingly) dry conditions on slippery grass before a short climb into a forrested trail path. We had two members in the field:
That is really great running by the two of you – on an especially challenging route. I’ll bet that you were glad of the reprieve in the weather from Saturday morning, which in Belfast at least, had horrendous conditions. Keep ‘er lit folks!
This weekend, in glorious conditions, Belfast celebrated five years of parkrun in Ireland. In November 2010, Waterworks Park on the Antrim Road held the first event – and we all know how that has taken off since then! So much so, that it has inspired so many of us to take to the parks this past Saturday – despite the wet, cold and blustery conditions:

|Roisin BYRNE||00:21:56||Third Female! New PB!|
|Kathy MAYHEW||00:24:17||New PB!|
|Jane Catherine PATTERSON||00:29:11|

Fantastic running everyone by everyone who made it out on Saturday morning. Those lucky to be the Waterworks event has the opportunity to meet Mr. parkrun himself – Paul Sinton-Hewitt. Special nods this week, all coming in second in their gender categories are Jim and Natalie (at Queen’s) and Nessa (at Castleblayney), and not foretting third over the line Roisin (at Waterworks)! Some awesome new PBs from Stephen and Roisin (at Waterworks) and Kathy (at Victoria). First timer PBs this week go to James (at Limavady) and Nessa (at Castleblayney).
Well, that’s it for another week! Some big races coming up in the next few weeks – so it’d be to have a few photos from those races – so feel free to snap away! I must tell you about my strange dream last night… I was in work, on tea break with all the usual suspects, when the HR Manager comes in and says, “I’ve been told that one of you is a Transformer robot” and everybody looked at ME… even Optimus Prime, who was sitting drinking oil instead of coffee.
Keep on running!
