The road racing season has well and truly begun – more over the jump!
Welcome to the first bumper edition of the roundup of 2016 with many, (many, many, many, many) more still to come in the next few months. Over the weekend I met one of my old teachers, Miss Turtle. She was (and still is) a strange looking woman -but she tortoise well. Right then, what have we been up to?
Correction: Born 2 Run Series
I missed out one very special person, who ran most impressively last weekend, including setting a wee PB in the process.
A round of applause please!!!
Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you – there is a Greenisland Marathon – all part of the East Antrim Harriers Marathon Series. The four loop route took the victims from Greenisland, down to Monkstown finally up the Shore Road towards Station road. There was on Dub taking part:
Fantastic running boss, on a very blustery day that would have blown you off your feet (yes I made an editorial decision to rephrase that). A great time to kick off your first marathon of the year. Sounds like you’ve a few more up your sleeve!
DUNE Half Marathon
The fourth year of the first cross border half marathon took place on Sunday in ideal conditions on the back roads between Newry and Dundalk. The route, slightly changed from last year added a few extra hills before sweeping into Dundalk. The road racing season has well and truly begun and it was great to see an Errigle of Dubs running:
Great times and running folks – this is the first year that I haven’t ‘dune‘ this race, so nice to see so many of us out and about. Despite the hills those are some really impressive times and again a great way to kick off the road running. Also, this race kicked off our 2016 gallery in style!
Finally, we wish with the old faithful. Saturday morning was bitterly, bitterly cold, luckily though, that didn’t stop the club waking up and thinking “let’s go for a run this morning“. Here’s the results:
|Jane Catherine PATTERSON||00:30:04|
|Karen CARLISLE||00:24:58||Joined the 50 Club!|
That’s a great showing from everyone – nice steady times. There was a slight blip at Queen’s where the timer decided to stop working, but it is the taking part that counts. One special mention this week – Karen (at Ormeau) who is the most recent Dub to join the red 50 club!
Back to a busy roundup writing schedule for me, so as always – could I ask my helpers to keep me informed so as to make sure that we don’t miss any races, or more importantly, anyone from future roundups. I was thinking of heading out for my dinner some evening, I was going to try that new place “Karma”. I hear that they have no menu, you just get what you deserve!
Keep on running!
Live long and prosper.
PS – Yes, don’t worry, I had a cheesy pickup line for Valentine’s Day on Sunday past:
Disclaimer: Every effort (read: a little) was taken to ensure the results above are correct. If you’d like to make a complaint then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
