Weekly Roundup: 2016-02-23

An international 5k, an ultra and some parkruns over the jump.

This past week has been another belter for the club – with lots of representitives at the varous races over the last week.  Before we look at the results in more detail I just wanted to ask, are able to tie a rope using telekinesis?  Thought knot.  Now the results…

Armagh International 5k Road Race
We had one Dub taking on the highly acclaimed race on Thursday past.  The route: five 1km laps around the mall in Armagh.  The qualifying time to race in the event – a mere 17 minutes!  Having said that there were ideal conditions for the competitors on a fast course:

James that is absolutely fantastic running – and a new PB 5k set, which was 30 seconds faster than your previous best time!  Considering that the first local finisher was 40th – you did us all extremely proud – and we’re very happy to see that you sensibly rested from the parkrun this weekend!

Last One Standing
Some people call my jokes an endurance test, and for the most part, they’re right.  Over the weekend though, an endurance test of a different kind took place.  Basically you turn up at Castleward, and start running and keep going until you basically fall over.  A lovely, muddy and tough four point two mile route awaited the participants of route – and we had a single solitary Dub who managed 15 LAPS of the course!!

For those who can’t (or like me don’t want to do the maths) that is a total of 63 miles run over the weekend – and a finish time of 3AM!!!  Just taking part in the event is an achievement, but to finish so well and strongly – that is an outstanding achievement Graeme, maybe take a day or two off the running now to recover please?

It was a baltic, windy morning on Saturday as we all got up – and with the forecast for it to get worse as the day continued, getting out there doing your weekend run early was definitely a good idea.  Quite a few of the Dubs went for that option:

Roisin BYRNE00:23:12

Jackie ROBINSON00:31:0
John MCCULLAGH00:20:46
Paul MCCREA00:24:4
James SHERIDAN00:22:55Third Male! Newbie PB!

That is absolutely fantastic running everyone!  It was not a weekend for PBs, so instead give yourselves a pat on the back instead!  Special mentions this week both finished third at their respective events, Lorraine (at Queen’s) and James (at Letterkenny).  Also well done to James on his newbie PB this week too!

Well, it is the final Run Forest Run race of the series – I hope that for any club members there that you might bring a wee camera with you… *hint, hint* please 🙂 .  Do you know what happens if you push a piano down a shaft?  A flat minor!

Disclaimer: Every effort (read: a little) was taken to ensure the results above are correct. If you’d like to make a complaint then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
