Weekly Roundup: 2016-06-28
Tri’s, 5k’s, a half marathon and more over the jump!
Warmup
We have been a busy club again this week (I love the summer months). Hope we’ve compiled a nod to anyone and everyone who was out doing their best over the last seven days! My friend went to the Doctor’s and was asked “Do you engaged in any dangerous sports?” He replied “Yes, sometimes I argue with my wife!” Let’s see what we have been doing this last week.
The Newest Dub
We would like to extend our congratulations to Dub Runner Aedín, who gave birth to little Baby Ethan on Monday weighing 7lb 2oz. Wishing all three of you health and happiness.

The newest Dub – Ethan!
Mullaghmore Triathlon
I know very, very little about this race to be honest folks – except that two eagle eyed readers spotted that I have deliberately left this off last week’s roundup. The Sligo triathlon consisted of a pictureseque 750m swim, a cycle for 20km finished with a 5k run – not that anyone had the time to take it all in! We had two Dubs taking part:
Pos | Name | Swim | Bike | Run | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
45 | Gareth Mcallister | 00:17:02 | 00:37:09 | 00:22:46 | 01:19:12 |
114 | Jane Friel | 00:18:19 | 00:43:00 | 00:25:46 | 01:30:10 |
Really well done folks – let’s give them a big hand! We hope that you got a chance to enjoy some of the local sights and sounds while you were on your little trip. Honestly, this was two weekends ago now, and I can’t find much out about it – maybe Gareth and Jane have forgetten about it too?!
Belfast City Airport Runway Run
Not to be outdone by Donegal International Airport last weekend – Geroge Best Belfast City Airport hosted their second (now annual) Grant Thornton Runway Run. The route? Up and down the main runway – only at 11PM at night. This unique event is a spectacle, not just to watch, but also to be a part of – and we had four Dub’s taking part:
Pos | Name | Time | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
8 | Noel Kelly | 00:19:08 | --- |
16 | Jim Larkin | 00:19:26 | --- |
31 | Brian Grimes | 00:20:25 | --- |
52 | Paula Owens | 00:21:26 | --- |
Absolutely outstanding performances on Thursday evening folks – magical running! I know you all ran as part of work teams, but sure we can still claim you as our own for that one 😉
Ards Half Marathon
The latest local half marathon is one of the toughest on the calendar – the Ards half marathon. If you like tackling mad hills on a Friday night, and think that the working week just isn’t tough enough – this is the race for you! As usual, we had an Errigle of dub line up on the start line:
Pos | Name | Time | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
41 | Brian Derby | 01:26:29 | --- |
75 | Jim Simons | 01:32:43 | Club Newbie |
161 | Mark Hamill | 01:40:53 | --- |
228 | Kate Moffett | 01:46:13 | --- |
237 | Nessa Agnew | 01:46:37 | --- |
248 | Heather Baron | 01:47:45 | --- |
Magic running folks! A mixture of the course and the conditions on the night makes it an extremely difficult course to pick up a PB on – so fair play for getting out there! But where were all the photos?! An eagle eyed, secret Dub, caught this snap and sent it on to me:

Sea Sprint Triathlon
Sunday morning seen the Sprint Triathlon taking place in Ballyholme. The morning started off overcast with drizzle coming on as the morning progressed (just in time for the cycle). The 750m swim started off in the water (the tide was out) with a long run back to transition to get the bikes. The 20km cycle consisted of two laps of an well marshalled open road, followed by a 5k run along the sea front to Ballyhome beach and over the sand to the finish line.
Pos | Name | Swim | Bike | Run | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
21 | John McCullagh | 00:15:14 | 00:39:46 | 00:19:23 | |
70 | Sean O'Hagan | 00:16:31 | 00:45:48 | 00:23:01 | 01:28:18 |
John and Sean – as usual you are the triathlon legends! Those are amazing times. Well done guys, magic swimming and cycling and running there! My only question for you both is, not how do you do it – but, why did you not take any photos?!
parkrun
A dull and overcast Saturday morning met those adventurous enough to leave house for their weekly parkrun fix. With the forecast looking bad, an early run was in order – mostly so that you can go back home and stick the old feet up. Luckily, we had a load of Dub representatives out in our parks this week:

Special hat tips this week go to James T and Richard C who finished second and third at the Queen’s event. There was one new course PB set this week by our Roisin at Ormeau! Finally, our newbie PB this week goes to Gareth (at Portrush).
Warmdown
That is it for another jam packed edition of the roundup. Please, please, please – if you think I’ll miss a race – let me know so I can get it added to the results. Remember it all a bit of fun, we all have good and bad days – it is not the time we all care about, it is the taking. Don’t worry folks, but I heard that Little Red Riding Hood has been found in a critical condition. Paramedics have stabilised her condition, but she’s not out of the woods y
Keep on running!
Live long and prosper.
Disclaimer: Every effort (read: I’m tired) was taken to ensure the results above are correct. If you’d like to make a complaint then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
