Weekly Roundup: 2016-07-05

An aquathon, 10k, parkrun and more this week over the jump!

Warmup
As we roll head first into July (and the month of the Giant’s Trail Race), we begin the influx of extra races being held – and it shows in just how busy the club has been this past week.  First off, I would like to tell you about the recent results for hometown footbal club Lion King FC.  The resilts have been: a win – away, a win – away, a win – away, a win – away.

Mourne Aquathon
Castlewellan was the lovely setting for a 1k swim followed by a quick 5k run.  The victims faced a strong wind blowing down the lake toward the campsite, the wind was so strong that a few of the rescue canoes even capsized.  Due to this, the swim course for the main race was changed from an out and back swim to a straight swim down the lake.  We had one Dub there on the scene:

Great going John – what a time for a 5k after a swim too!  I am reliably informed, by John himself, that the conditions were quite challenging too.  You know after all that; I think that you deserve a holiday!

Comber 10k
If you fancied a quick 10k race – then Comber was the place to be on Saturday afternoon.  The soaking course, which had an upside that it was a mostly flat and level route, challenged almost 500 runners, including two Dubs of our own:

Really great running guys, it is never easy to run a 10k, and it is even tougher to run it in the pouring rain!  No post-race snack reviews as they didn’t want to hang around after, because, you know – soaking!  Home for a cuppa was in order.

parkrun
With an impending deluge – (is it me, or does this seem to be the theme, so far, of Summer 2016?!) – getting your weekend fix of a run squeezed in was essential.  We took to the parks in Northern Ireland, Ireland and in England this week to have a go at beating our personal bests:

Hat tip this week to James S who set a new PB at the Falls event. We had two newbie PBs from Graeme and Colin – both at the Queen’s event over the weekend. Finally, with only ONE more parkun to go until he completes fifty different parkruns, Mike also set a newbie PB at the Wetherby event on Saturday.

Warmdown
Best of luck to Mike when he finally decides to do this big 5-0 parkrun – we’re all behind you cheering you on!  Please get out there and tell people about our upcoming trail race (the spread alone will convince them)!  I went into town over the weekend and all the stores were selling nautical items.  They all had sales.

Keep on running!

Live long and prosper.
