We have news from Greyabbey and the local (and no so local) parkruns over the jump!
It seems like everyone is getting into holiday mode this week – and giving my RSI a much needed rest! Just the two events to cover this week, but before we get there, our traditional ‘Story from my Life’ to share first! The missus and myself were bathing two monkeys over the weekend. We put one in and it said “Oooohhhhh Ooohhh Ahhh Ahhh ee ee” so I yelled at her “Would you put in some cold water!” Right then – results time.
If the Ards Half Marathon wasn’t quite your thing (and I’d understand why), then there wasn’t long to wait for a slightly shorter race with the annual Greyabbey 10k and 5k road races. The scenic route on the eastern shores of Strangford Lough attracted a large crowd, including some interest from the Dubs:

Fantastic running everyone, really impressive times posted all. While everyone else was out sunning themselves and watching Andy Murray fight his way into the second week of Wimbledon (sorry if that was a spoiler) – you took on the heat and went racing! A special mention to the Nesster who won her age category in the 5k race! A great start all round to the weekend!
After a mid-week dip, summer returned on Saturday morning to the parks around the country – just in time for our favourite weekly 5k events! A little bit of sunshine always makes it easier to get up and ready over the weekends, and quite a few Dubs exercised their option to run a local parkrun:
|Steven TODD||00:18:38||New PB!|
|Ronan O'FLAHERTY||00:24:10||Newbie PB!|
|Alastair KING||00:20:09||Newbie PB!|
|James TRAINOR||00:19:06||Newbie PB!|
|Suzy KENNEDY||00:25:0||Newbie PB!|
Nice running everyone – maybe a little too warm for some of us at 9:30 in the morning – or maybe I am just speaking for myself there! Hat tips this week, we only have the one new course PB which was set by Steven (at Craigavon)! All the rest of the hat tips are going to newbie PBs set around the various parks! So let’s give a big hand to Ronan (at Antrim), Alastair (at Stormont) and to James & Suzie (at Tilgate) – who ran even though they were on their holidays!! For anyone on their holidays – occasionally we get sunshine here too:
Hopefully you’re all going to enjoy a few days off this week – remember to let me know if you’re doing any races (especially the ones I might miss). If you’re off for a few days this week – enjoy it – Wednesday is supposed to get the best of the weather (or so Frank Mitchell tells me). I am very proud of myself – I managed to throw a rock 5,280 feet today – it was a milestone!
Live long and prosper.
Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (I’m off this week, I have literally no excuse!!). If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
