S’all about the parkrun and a trip to Nappa Valley over the jump!
Well, the Beast from the East truly took its hold this past week! With pretty much all of the events we’d planned for this past weekend called off – at one stage this was looking like the roundup was going to have zero events on it for the first time ever (we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that)! Some bad news first, it appears that we’re in for a bad spell of wether. Ahem, moving on…
Sunday Run – Let It Go!
With almost all of Saturday a white out (see what I did there), some brave Dub souls decided to go for it on Sunday morning. Ladies and gentlemen I give you “The Beast from the East Beaters”:
Nappa Valley Marathon
California in March – where do I sign up? Did anyone notice that snow we had during the week? As much of a pain as it was for us, we had one Dub who had her flight cancelled to the States. Cue a frantic trip to London and trying to get re-booked on a flight. After all that, she had to run a marathon:
|442||Geraldine Coyle||03:54:53||New PB!|
Where do we start with this one?! Geraldine what a cracking performance – truly inspiring time, and setting your PB kicking a magic 4 minutes off your previous best. Add to that the chaos of travelling and even not being sure if you’d made it in time for the race – makes it all very special. While the course tracked downhill, I counted TWELVE distinct rises over the 26 mile course, but in ideal conditions – it made for a memorable race! So, while we had snow, Geraldine had this:
parkrun – The Snow Must Go On!
There were three trains of thought on Saturday morning: long run, sleep in or parkrun! This week we had the grand total of FIVE (yep, I wrote it out to make it longer) Dubbers make it out. With only 90-odd events still on, we had the luxury of choosing: Waterworks or Stormont. Lacking any kind of coordination among members, we did both!
|Ronan MCCAUGHEY||00:25:33||Newbie PB!|
|Maire MCCAUGHEY||00:26:01||Newbie PB!|
|James SHERIDAN||00:22:25||New SB!|
|Kathy MAYHEW||00:29:10||New SB!|
|Ronan O'FLAHERTY||00:29:14||New SB!|
Magic running everybody, and huge thanks to the volunteers who not only make sure that the various courses were safe, but also to the marshals who stood as fresh snow was falling on top of them. Some hat tips this week go to Ronan and Marie who set newbie benchmark PBs at the Waterworks event. Also to James S, Kathy and Ronan who set new snow best times at the Stormont event! There was even time for a few photos – despite the temperature drop:
I think that it might be safe to venture out again – take some of the cold weather gear off and prepar for the glorious summer that lies ahead for us… okay that might be a bit of a stretch, but all our training is back to normal this week! As always, let me know if you’re doing any random events, just so that you can get your name in lights here! Finally, some lighter news, hot on the heels of Lynsey’s new arrival, a drummer friend of mine had twin daughters at the weekend – he called them Anna one, Anna two…
Live long and prosper.
Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (I don’t really have an excuse this week!) If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
