Weekly Roundup: 2018-03-20

The roundup is some Craic this week – don’t believe me?  Find out more over the jump!

Right then, that’s the AGM out of the way now, time to get into the year’s serious business. We’ve races and events galore coming up this year – all we need to do now is wait for this extended Winter to pass and we’ll be grand!  I finally broke the news to my family that I have opened a theatre, my mother’s first reaction was “Are you having me on?” “I’m sorry,” I replied “you’ll have to audition like everyone else.”  Let’s take a look at what we’ve been doing this week:

Craic 10k
On one of the coldest days of the year (pftt, Dune’rs would disagree), 1300 runners set off in search of the craic. Truth be told, it was going to be found at 2:45pm in the local public house, rather than around the streets of Belfast! A new twisty route from city hall, up into the West, back through narrow back streets and finishing along the Waterside at the iconic Titanic slipways – thankfully the sight of the finish line this time actually meant the finish rather than another loop round an industrial estate! Our Dubs did us proud so early on a holiday:

24Steven Todd00:37:48---
45Claire Tonry00:39:07New PB!
90Aine Hughes00:41:42---
93Bernadette O'Kane00:41:42New PB!
200James Sheridan00:44:56New PB!
337Paul McFlynn00:49:46---
345Ronan McCaughey00:49:57---
422Marie McCaughey00:51:57---
650Danielle McCloskey00:56:09---

Fantastic running folks – truly fantastic, in those horrid conditions more remission of our recent Beast from the East! We have to give a special mention to Claire, our Pocket Rocket Bernie and James S who still aren’t quite sure how they managed to bag a PB on the day despite nearly losing a few toes. Ya know, if St Patrick was a runner, the craic would be his race! It wouldn’t be a Dub race without a few photos – Sláinte!

  • Minus Craic: Steven experiencing the conditions on Saturday!

Jimmy’s 10k
This was supposed to be on Sunday morning, but the weather fronts had different ideas and decided to make the course a little too dangerous and the right decision was taken to postpone the event. The still to be confirmed replacement date is this Sunday, 25th March 2018. We’ll post an update on social media when we know more.

For some, the thought of a 10k distance was just a tad too much, and they took the “easier” option of going for a little parkrun. No one take offense at this please, I am just repeating what was said to me in the pub! T’was Baltic, and I think a few hoped that there might be some early snow to grab some vital extra minutes in bed… Alas not, we made it to the parkrun, albeit in smaller than usual numbers and went for a run:

Maureen OLIVER00:28:56
Kathy MAYHEW00:24:45
Trevor MURPHY00:26:54
Brona SHAW00:32:01
James GUINN00:30:35
Ronan O'FLAHERTY00:21:20
James TRAINOR00:21:23
Natalie CONNOLLY00:21:45
John MCCULLAGH00:22:14
Michael KIRK-SMITH00:23:50

Fair play everyone – chasing those snakes out of the parks in honour of Saint Patrick – he would have been proud of each and every one of us! No official honours were given out this week (despite some heroic efforts by James T to pull a certain Technical Director around Ormeau) – so instead, raise as glass to everyone (what do you mean you’re in work!?) As the adage goes – “Did it really happen if it isn’t on Strava?!” in Roundup Towers we say – “Did it really happen if there isn’t a photo?!

  • Baltic: Yet another freezing Saturday for Ronan, Natalie, John & James T!

Massive week of road running ahead – Queen’s 5k on Wednesday, Larne Half on Saturday, Jimmy’s 10k on Sunday – and that’s just the events I know about! By the stage you all know the drill – photos please, and yes Jim we’ll event accept selfies!  There is great concern as one of the Russian acrobats in my human pyramid team has been deported – we don’t have Oleg to stand on.

Live long and prosper.

Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (I deserve a week off at some point, don’t I?!) If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
