We’re at the Shore, then the Carn, from Sea to Sky and parkrun over the jump!
Bank Holidays mean only one thing for us runners – the chance to enter mid-week races without the worry of work the next day! It’s even better when Bank Holiday falls so we can get a sneaky extended weekend out of it too. We made the most of it this week, take a look later at what every was up to – the wee break wasn’t for everyone though… As I had yet another argument with the missus over the break – “You never see things from my point of view” she argued. “What do you mean,” I replied, “Just yesterday I looked out the kitchen window!” Results time!
Killough’s leafy streets were the setting for the Shore 10k. A circular route from the west pier at the harbour, via country roads, and back along the picture postcard shoreline. Our dubs though were not for slowing down to sightsee the castle and lighthouse (and they’re impressive), they managed post some mighty impressive times:
|5||Steven Todd||00:38:03||1st M45|
|17||Brian Derby||00:40:33||1st M55|
|36||Heather Baron||00:43:19||New PB!|
|39||Kate Moffett||00:43:35||New PB!|
|48||Roisin Byrne||00:45:11||New PB! 1st F45|
This was a race and a half for the blue tops, three personal bests over 10k PLUS three age category wins, a top five finish – outstanding work by each and every Dub representing and doing us proud! Something in the air on Wednesday evening – it must have been the relaxed atmosphere in the village (can’t beat a good country race)! Who asked for some photos?!
Run the Carn
Well, this one was a 5k mountain race on a bank holiday – you know one of those rare days when you get to sleep in! This one was in Slaughtneil, up Carntogher Mountain – starting on a rocky farmyard path – quick incline up to the top of the mountain (243m), fast downhill on the Rocky Path (not the movie one) then along winding paths to the finish. We’d one goat at this one:
|xx||Bernadette O'Kane||00:25:00||2nd Place!|
That was a bit of a challenge for a holiday – but no problem to our Pocket Rocket who very ably swept around the course. As if goating rights weren’t enough – she also nabbed the second spot on the podium – fantastic effort al round. Not bad for day when you could have done nothing guilt free! Of course, we have a photo:
Sea 2 Sky
Is it that time of the year again?! You guessed it, Newcaslte hosted its annual 10k centrepiece race, starting along the coast, through Donard Park, past the foothills of Drinahilly before circling around to Newcastle again for the finish. All in, a mere 700ft of climbing on a Friday evening, where we had a trio of Dubs competing:
Great running in the humid conditions on Friday evening – this one isn’t easy, despite Steven might try to tell you, and requires some leftover skill and agility to make through the park and foothills in one piece. Outstanding efforts from our trio, and group relative newbies to the club too – great to see them taking up the baton and running these landmark events. Of course, I did some spying and found some photos:
You can easily tell that holiday season is in fully swing now! This week, with the drought continuing (not that we’re complaining), we had lots of Dubbers out doing parkrun at lots of different events. In fact, great to see so much parkrun tourism going on. Let’s take a look at where everyone ended up this week:
|Brona SHAW||00:29:51||Newbie PB!|
|Steven TODD||00:18:10||All Time 5k PB!|
|Judith MC MANUS||00:23:47||New PB!|
|Andrew NOBLE||00:22:04||Newbie PB!|
|Kathy MAYHEW||00:29:36||Newbie PB!|
|Niall MCCRORY||00:19:35||Newbie PB!|
|Mike SMITH||00:23:59||Newbie PB!|
I love seeing some tourism at work – and with the good weather who can blame you for wanting to try out new courses and events! Let’s tip our hats, this week first to our newbie PB entrants who were Brona (at Derry City), Andrew N (at Comber), Kathy (at Lough Key), Niall (at Oranmore) and Mike (at Montrose). We had a new course PB set by Judith (at Antrim). Finally, let’s give a massive round of applause to our Steven who stormed around the Victoria event in, not just a course PB, but his all time 5k PB too! It’s only fitting then that we give the parkrun feature photo to..:
That’s us for another week – fantastic running everyone, and great to see so many of us out racing in club tops too. Big week coming up for the club with the Giant’s Trail Race on the way – make sure you tell your family and friends all about it!! I need some advice – I’ve just been offered a job working in a mirror making factory… I’m not sure if I’d like it, but it is something I can see myself doing.
Live long and prosper.
Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (did ye see the length of this thing this week… I mean give me a chance!!!) If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week! 🙂
