Weekly Roundup: 2018-11-13

From Tollymore to parkrun and more over the jump!

Warmup
Can we officially call it Winter yet?! Ah we love a good moan about the weather, but we won’t get into that here. Instead you can find out all the Dub goodness from the last seven days that will warm your heart – we’ll get to that really, really soon. I do enjoy rubbing shoulders with celebrities, but did you know that Marvin Gaye kept a sheep in my vineyard? He’d herd it through the grapevine.  Right then 13.1 miles and 3.1 miles are coming up.

Tollymore Half Marathon
Sometimes you wake and think to yourself that a normal half marathon isn’t enough of a challenge – I got to do a trail one instead! Add to this, I count no less than four distinct peaks, with a course that can be truly described as undulating. Oh yes – this is one tough event and requires some willpower to cross the finish line. Let’s take a look at who took park:

Marvellous running Blue Tops – outstanding performances all round. With the soaking we had to endure on Friday the course conditions were more tricky than usual, unknown conditions underfoot and mixed terrains adding to the fun of it all. A good rest is needed after that one! We love a good photo here at Roundup Towers – so here is a trio of Dubs:

  • Tollydone: Geraldine, Paul & Joanna celebrating!

parkrun
Let’s face it – Friday was such a washout that the thought of going for any type of run on Saturday morning wasn’t very appealing. Luckily, the wind and rain cleared overnight, and despite the best efforts of some (very) localised flooding – the parks were alive with the sound of thousands of runners at 9:30am. We had quite the contingent taking part:

22 Dubbers doing parkrun this week – awesome work folks, great to see! Right, hat time so that means that it is also tipping time! We’d two first placers this week from Kyle (at Wallace) and Natalie (at Ormeau). We had newbie Alastair R take the second step at the Colin Glen event, while over at Falls another newbie, Niall took to the final step. Two new course PBs this week, both of them set at the Ormeau event from Catherine and Liam! Finally, we’d lots and lots of tourism this week, on their travels and setting newbie PBs was Kyle (at Wallace), James S (at Citypark), Alastair R (at Colin Glen) and Brona (at Falcarragh).

Warmdown
Ah, we are edging ever closer to Lanzarote, the Christmas party and, whisper this one – the Christmas Market Run – we are getting into the business end of the Dub year. Exciting times ahead. The other day I got a lift to the eleventh floor, as I got out the operator said “Have a good day, son.” “Don’t call me son,” I said, “You’re not my dad.” He scratched his head “No, but I brought you up didn’t I?”

Live long and prosper.

Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (One name for you all – Alastair…. I’ll let you all work out which one!) If you’d also like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week! 🙂
