Weekly Roundup: 2018-12-18

All about the Christmas Party and parkruns over the jump!

Now that the Christmas Party is over, we can look forward to one of the most anticipated training sessions of the year – Thursday’s (20-Dec) run to the Christmas Markets by City Hall, Santa hats at the ready!  Did you know that a sheep’s favourite Christmas song is “Fleece Navidad“? Let’s see how everyone got on this past week:

Christmas Party Night
I think we all have to give a massive hand to Claire for organising a great Christmas Party night on Saturday. The food in the First Floor Bistro was delicious, then, traditions had to continue as we hightailed it over to the Errigle for few more sociables! A great night – thank you.

  • Christmas: An Errigle of Dubs in the Errigle!

Flashmob parkrun: Orangefield
After the success of last year’s flashmob on the morning of the Christmas Party Night – we thought that we’d have a second go at it! To ensure fairness, the location was changed to Orangefield – and despite the best efforts of the weather, we had a nifty little turnout! Let’s take a look at the Errigle of Dubbers who gathered:

2Alastair RODGER00:19:202nd Place! Newbie PB!
8Claire TONRY00:23:031st Place!
11Nessa AGNEW00:24:132nd Place!
12Marie SWEET00:24:233rd Place! Newbie PB!
13Ronan MCCAUGHEY00:24:24
17Maire MCCAUGHEY00:25:10
23Ronan O'FLAHERTY00:26:38
24Kathy MAYHEW00:26:40
33Jane PATTERSON00:32:28Newbie PB!

All things considered that was a great turn out for the flahmob – thank you. We had our new guy Alastair take the second step of the podium at his first showing in the park. Our ladies captured the entire podium with Claire on top, Nessa slipping into second and Marie S taking the final step on her first outing too! Great running all round in what can only be described as horrid conditions. Jane notched up another bit of tourism with her visit on Saturday!  We have a full 2019 flashmob schedule – so get the dates in your diary!  Who wants to see how wet it was?!

  • Flashmob: The Dubs drowned rats at Orangefield!

For some, the thought of Orangefield was a little too much for them (and we can’t blame you there), and our blue tops decided to try out some other parks. We know it was a little dull, grey and damp – but as usual that doesn’t dampen our spirits! As you can see from everyone who ran below:

Maureen OLIVER00:27:16
Dermot DAWSON00:25:28
Niall MCCRORY00:19:562nd Place!
Judith MC MANUS00:25:11Newbie PB!
Steven TODD00:26:43
Catherine BAILLIE00:22:50
James SHERIDAN00:20:59

Great running everyone – just getting the energy to get out of bed was hard enough, let alone actually running in that weather! A few hat tips nonetheless, over to Falls Park and a returning Niall bagged the second step for the second week in a row. While a few local cancellations had Judith travel to Wallace for the first time. Finally, we had our Maureen set her best time this year at the Waterworks event, superb all round folks:

PS – You can check out which parkruns are happening on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day by looking at the Christmas Compendium!

Our annual party is a great chance to socialise in civvies and get to know each other in a non-running environment – and have a drink or two at the same time, all in the name of the festive spirit!  A club member has just returned from his travels, in his honour, do you know the alphabet different on Christmas from every other day? There’s Noel!

Live long and prosper.
