Weekly Roundup: 2019-03-05

So, we had a few PBs this weekend past – check them ALL out over the jump!

Spring has sprung and it is time for us to come out of hibernation and see the fruits of our winter labour and how well it has paid off! Then for others (like myself), it was a nice weekend for a relaxing jog and not worrying about races!! We’ll get to the results real soon I promise, first, I hope you’re sitting down. Bad news, I can’t take my dog to the pond anymore because the ducks keep attacking him – I guess that’s what I get for buying a pure bread dog! Let’s take a look at our PB heavy roundup:

Carlingford Half Marathon
Okay, be honest – who signed up for this before they knew it was starting at 10am this year?! The early birds set off in search of meeting their goals from the winter season. The course is a story of two halves – the first a challenging and undulating route over roads, the second a more costal road twisting and turning (thanks to costal erosion, obviously) back to the harbour for the finish. At the mercy of the elements we had 17 blue tops:

They say that they early bird catches the worm – well in this case: the early bird catches the PB! You know its been one hell of a great day when over half the club finishes with best times – and proof that your training has well paid off! Claire once again taking home the spoils in third place and setting a new half marathon best time along with Jim, Kate, Heather, Catherine, Katherine, Marie, Frances, Danielle and Anne Marie. Amazing. Absolutely amazing everyone – well done!

  • Carl-bling-ford: PBs and smiles all round from the Dubs!

Slieve Gullion
At the highest point in County Armagh and from the Irish ‘Mountain of the Steep Slope‘ (ha) NIMRA’s latest adventure was located. Now that might have been a little a clue for what our Goats were ‘up’ to this week. Despite the hail, wind and mist, they found that the mountain had two summits – then a bog hurdling rapid descent – usual stuff. Just two of them out for this one:

26Steven ToddUndefinedIt wasn't that kind of race!
39Niall McCroryUndefinedIt wasn't that kind of race!

You know things are tough when they refuse to time you on a race – so if the description above wasn’t clear enough – this was bloody hard! Talking of bogs (not the toilets, pull you head out of the gutter please), our Steve came a cropper as he couldn’t quite hurdle far enough and managed to finish the race with a bog tan! All great craic (I‘m told) – the pictures prove it:

  • Goats: Niall & Steve and apparently Gullion is there too (yeah, right!)

If a crack of dawn start wasn’t for you, then not to worry – because Saturday is also parkrun day! Anyone who had a look ahead at the forecast knew what was coming and got out as early as possible – before the umbrellas came out! Out of our 19 parkrunners – we had quite the number of tourists there too:

Nessa AGNEW00:22:03New PB!

Let’s tip our hat this week to Natalie – fighting for third home at the Ormeau event! We had some new course PBs set by Eammon Mc (at Ormeau), Orla (at Ormeau), Karen at (Stranmillis College) and Nessa (at Malahide). We’d two tourists with Roisin joining Nessa in Malahide, and Mike who completed Stranmillis for his 72nd parkrun at his 72nd different event – that is the kind of stuff tourism is made of – magic!  Also, special nod to our Roisin who only had to travel to Dublin to bag her all-time 5k personal best time at the weekend too – well done!  Here’s a photo to prove it:

  • parklife: Roisin & Nessa tick off some more tourism at Malahide

We’ll wrap up a magnificent week for the club there – a privileged week here at Roundup Towers to put in lights so may fantastic achievements. Well done everyone! Would you believe, someone suggested last week that the stories from my personal like are ‘jokes’ but I can ensure you that they are true stories, every last one of them! Now then, everyone has been asking where I got my detailed tattoo done, but for some reason no one believes me when I tell them that it was in Spain – nobody expect the Spanish ink precision.

Live long and prosper.
