From Kilkee to parkrun and more over the jump!

Warmup
As the club prepares for our feature piece Giant’s Trail Race in 10 days’ time (which has sold out in record time this year), we also need to make sure we keep our own running going so we know how our entrants feel. Find out all the latest club results in a moment, but I got a phone call from bank last week, telling me that I had an outstanding balance – that was nice of them to say, but they don’t know that I used to do gymnastics when I was younger. Right then, let’s get cracking:

Kilkee Half Marathon
Kilkee by the sea – I love that slogan! This race had a lovely course along the spectacular Loop Head Peninsula in Co. Clare. Whoever wrote the course the description could sell ice to Eskimos! “You’ll pass dizzying cliffs and improbable seastacks as the drive steers you back to Kilkee” – that sounds majestic, and in the cracking weather from Saturday we had one Dub taking part:

Fair play Karen, all the way to Kilkee and you didn’t forget your running shoes (nor your Dub top either)! Posting a cracking time, which I know came totally out of the blue (boom, boom), was an added wee bonus. Plus, by the looks you were the only person in the club to be officially racing this week (parkrun is a run not a race) and here – don’t you look happy about that:

  • KarenKee: Magic time from our Karen while on holidays!

parkrun
For most, the weekend began a day early this week. The sadness was felt waking up on Friday morning and not being able to get out and do parkrun! We all had to go out and, gulp – do our own runs! The world was made right the next morning though – as with the holidays in full swing, we had a squad of Dubs doing a spot of parkrun tourism:

20 parkrunners in the club this week – magic, really awesome work everyone, kepp’er lit! Do you have your hat ready? Well, third across the line this week was Nessa who was also a newbie at the Cootehill event. We’d an Errigle of new course PBs set by Brendan (at Victoria), Stacey (at Victoria), Dermot (at Falls), Niall (at Ormeau), Rob (at Ormeau), Liam (at Falcarragh), Kathy (at Lough Key) and Alastair R (at Narin Beach). Finally, we’d a raft of newbie PBs (you’d think it was a bank holiday or something) from Julia (at Citypark), Nuala (at St. Anne’s), Brona (at Lough Key), Paul McN (at Narin Beach), Roisin (at Narin Beach) and Ronan O who finally managed a ‘Z’ parkrun in Poland to grab his 19th letter of the parkrun alphabet in Zielona Góra. Of course, we have photos:

  • parklife: Ronan made the trip to Poland for a 'Z'!

Warmdown
It would be remiss to not mention the club’s duathlete’s this week. Last Wednesday was wet, miserable and dull – so normal summer conditions then. We had a valiant band of ten Dubs taking part and due to conditions results weren’t taken (see featured image), but they deserve a cheer for fully observing Rule #5. The missus and I were talking about holidays we’d like to go on, I told her that I’d like to go to the south of France some time – “That would be Nice” she replied.

Live long and prosper.

Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (II’m off the grid, you didn’t see me here!) If you’d also like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties🙂
