Weekly Roundup: 2020-01-21
Beam from Gosford to the parks and find out all the craic over the jump!
Warmup
And just like that its back to shorts and t-shirt weather! Well, almost! Well done to our hearty runners who made it out over the weekend – that was a frosty one. We will have a full roundup of results and craic for you, but first, thanks for all your concern after I got run over by a rrental car at the weekend, I am okay, but it still bloody Hertz. Let’s make it so!
Run Forest Run, Race 6: Tollymore
Gosford Forest Park just outside of Markethill in Armagh hosted the latest race in this popular winter series. Two flavours with a 5k loops with a few small rises and falls, with a more undulating 10k route extending out to the park perimeter. Starting a little later in the morning allowed for some of the frost and ice to burn off as a handful of Dubs hit the trails:
Pos | Name | Time | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
2 | Brendan McIlhennon | 00:35:50 | 2nd Place! |
86 | Stacey Orr | 00:47:32 | --- |
104 | Katherine Harkness | 00:48:47 | --- |
19 | Peter Mallon | 00:20:34 | --- |
Nice running everyone – another series podium spot for Brendan, Stacey and Katherine pumping in some awesome sub 50-minute times and Peter posting an impressive time in his first outing in blue! With some frost remaining in the more covered areas, the race was held on a refreshingly nice morning around the woodlands. The penultimate race in the series is scheduled for 1st February located in Antrim Castle Gardens and now that’s out of the way – photo of the podoum:

“The best laid plans of mice and men…” yeah, so that Flashmob didn’t happen! So, with an eye on the forecast and then the raft cancellation messages coming through, it was a matter of trying to find an event that was still on this weekend. Luckily, we can happily report, that nineteen hearty Dubs wrapped up warm and hoped they didn’t slip:

Despite the conditions we had some new course PBs set by Rob (at Queen’s), Roisin (at Queen’s), Amy (at Queen’s), Danielle (at Orangefield) and Lynn (at Orangefield). Here’s a selection of photos from the mini-mobs:
Warmdown
Small but mighty! Small in number of events but mighty in Dub blue! At this early stage of the year, we’ll put out a call for newbies to ensure that they put their club down as Dub Runners of Belfast for any events you’re entering (oh, and parkrun too) – it really helps us out in Roundup Towers. Also, be sure to beam up your photos so that we can celebrate your achievements with the world (or at least the club)! Just to let you all know, that starting yesterday, it is Diarrhoea Awareness Week, it runs until Friday.
Live long and prosper.
