Weekly Roundup: 2020-03-17
This is truly uncertain times we are in. Let’s find out more over the jump.
Warmup
Well, it appears we are truly sailing into the unknown. Having previously dubbed this month ‘Mad March’ little did we know what was around the corner. Look, it is disappointing to have races postponed or cancelled, especially the bigger ones that require intensive training – but it is for the best. We move onwards for now, and we’ll look back at what happened over the weekend in a moment, but I have been doing some research and apparently, I come from a long line of magicians – I have two half-sisters. Right then, what did we do?
Flashmob parkrun: Knockbracken Reservoir
Junior of the parkrun family – event number three at Knockbracken Reservoir (that’s where Leg’s Go Hyrdo is) was the location for the most recent Flashmob event in the series. Three laps around the perimeter of the reservoir – two wee hills, but a fierce wind out in the exposed hill top course. Despite the weather forecast, it was a grand morning for a run, and fifteen blue tops did just that:

That’s a nice but tough wee course, a great support team, some different terrains, two hills, a hard to get letter K and ample parking. Just what a parkrun needs to be successful! A first this week – where everyone gets a menion, to Fra who set a new course PB on his second go at the route. We had first timer visits by Brian D, Alastair R, Collette, Ronan Mc, Máire Mc, Ronan O, Nessa, Roisin, Julia, Gerladine, Fracnes, Dale, Jane and Steven T. We made sure to try and follow some of the important guidelines:
parkrun
Not everyone could make it to the flashmob, and that is totally okay. We were lucky being able to even get the chance to do parkrun at the weekend, so seeing nine events on the list this week, for 11 Dubs. Making the most of the unexpected good weather was:

Nicely done folks – well done for representing at other venues, always flying the flag. Oh, our hat has to come out once again and it needs to be tipped to Katherine (at Enniskillen) who set a new course PB on the route. While we have some newbie PB benchmark set by Nuala (at Waterworks) and Mike (at Middleton Woods). Struggled to find photos mind you!!
Warmdown
These are truly unique times, and for the first time in five and half years of doing the Roundup we face a week where it looks like we will have absolutely nothing to report on. You know what – that is totally okay – we need to follow the expert medical advice and get through this. My own training has been hit too, for those of you who don’t know I’ve been training for an ironman challenge – but, on the plus side my shirts look great.
LLAP & take care.
Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (I bet we have a few takers for next week!?) If you’d also like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties !
