What’s this?! A new 2020 roundup?! Find out more over the jump!
Welcome to the 282nd edition of the Weekly Roundup, and our first new edition in 126 days. Just as the club gets going again, racing takes it first tentative steps towards returning with its first outing. More on that in a moment, over lockdown my friend Jack claimed that he could communicate with vegetables – Jack and the beans talk! Here we go again:
Down Royal Races
The Racecourse in Down Royal hosted the first running event in the UK since the lockdown in March. With 5k, 10k and half marathon events there was something for everyone here. Our 10k entrant ran just over three laps to complete the distance, in perfect mild with a little breeze conditions. If you were there (which you wouldn’t have been allowed to), in one of the waves of thirty you’d have spotted a blue top:
|22||Phil Clarke||00:33:46||New PB!|
Outstanding running from Phil smashing his previous 10k distance PB by 90 seconds, excellent work. While no spectators were allowed, there was a smattering of locals and some encouraging stewards along the course. A totally bizarre finish where runners cross the line, to your car and head home. Even with a lack of crowds there was still a photo opportunity:
There you have it! Racing has returned in some way – although it is not quite the racing that we all remember, we are some way off that yet. Training has returned on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday’s – if you’re reading this and would like to come along, please feel free to get in contact with us. In place of our lockdown quizzes, here’s an interesting fact for you all: Ddd you know that almost all garden gnomes have a little red hat – it’s a little gnome fact.
Live long and prosper.
PS – It’s good to be back isn’t it? Okay, so it likely won’t be every week for a little while, but still it is nice to be back in the groove!
Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (bit of an idle threat this week isn’t it?). If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week :)
