Weekly Roundup: 2020-08-04

We’re back with another new event to cover over the jump!

Edition #283 comes hot on the heels of the last roundup with yet another local road race to report on. These new events, are great at becoming the new normal for runners, but you can’t help but feel a little sad at the number of races that just aren’t happening this year (and all for good reason too). Before we get to the results, just to let you all know that I finally found a face mask for my duck to help in the fight against covid-19, I mean it is not very fashionable, but it fits the bill. Let’s rock and roll:

EIKON Lisburn
Race returned to our roads this weekend past at the EIKON Exhibition Centre (the old Maze site for those not in the know). With a series of events including a half, 10k and 5k races, a beautifully still morning and a flat course all ahead for the participants. We had two blue tops involved, one in the 5k race which was two laps of the site, another in the 10k race which was four laps:

10k Race
62Francis McKenna00:50:07New PB!
5k Race
12Phil Clarke00:16:10New PB!

Great running from both of our Dubs there, Phil and Fra pumping out fantastic times at the event. Both Francis and Phil smashed their PBs over the 5k distance too – just going to prove that lockdown hasn’t slowed any of us down in the slightest! Well done lads, some bragging and gloating rights built up there for the weekend, now for a photo:

EIKON: Grit and determined is our Phil.

We hope that club members are enjoying getting back to training and feel safe when out running on club evenings. Please feel free to contact any member of the committee to chat if you have any concerns and we’ll do our best to address them. So, last weekend I was asked if I could re-turf a field for a civil war re-enactment – I thought, sod that for a game of soldiers.

Live long and prosper.

Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (there might even be an event to cover next week too!). If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
