Weekly Roundup: 2020-08-25

From Down Royal to Belfast Castle to Carrickfergus Castle and more over the jump!

…and just like that the roundups keep on coming thick and fast. To any newbies reading and thinking they like to be a part of all this – just let us know if you’re racing and our team of experts will scour the interweb looking for results and photos (of you could just send them to us, because let’s face it – we will miss them!)  Close call in the office, my boss came to me a lunch and said “Where have you been? I’ve been trying to find you all morning!” I just shrugged and replied, “Good employees are hard to find.” Let’s get cracking, shall we?

Down Royal Races
Back to Down Royal, back to the 5k looped course, back to the same weather…. Well two out of three ain’t bad. As the weather took a bit of a turn over the weekend, the flat and fast race course became that little bit more challenging. Thankfully, the blue tops like a good challenge:

Half Marathon Race
5Phil Clarke01:16:36New PB!
10k Race
27Alastair Rodger00:37:36New PB!
42Rob Walker00:39:48
83Francis McKenna00:49:46New PB!

Well done guys – great running in less than ideal conditions. Normally I would say these weren’t PB conditions but with Alastair and Francis setting new limits for themselves on the three and a half lap race, and then Phil slicing a massive 3 and half minutes off his best on the seven and half lap race! Clearly, it was a great Dub day all round, really well done everyone!

Trilogy Part 2: Belfast to Carrickfergus Castle
There’s a lovely flat run along the coast from Belfast to Carrick, but that was not the route to be followed. Starting at the foot of Cave hill and going up, up (up, up, up) and down from there. Through waist high grass, knee deep mud and puddles you could swim in, our dynamic Dub duo ran. Self navigating forgotten country lanes, all while being lashed with the wind and rain:

Incredible running folks – just stonking great times posted there. Despite the weather and the sore legs, there was some amazing scenery and views for miles making for some truly epic memories – this race had the lot. Forget the times, this was a challenge just to finish. Take a bow (and a photo):

While its great to see some racing returning, there has been a spate of cancellations over the last week or two, but all that is okay! Those races will be back again next year, so train hard now and start laying the foundations for a solid 2021 if racing doesn’t tickle your fancy this year.  Gonna change things up this week with a thought for the day: People overcome adversity all the time, look at Beethoven – they told him he was deaf, but did he listen?!

Live long and prosper.

Disclaimer: Every effort was taken to ensure the results above are correct (Anna came close this week… be warned!). If you’d like to make a complaint, then you’ll automatically volunteer yourself for writing duties next week 🙂
