Weekly Roundup: 2018-02-13

Got frostbite. That’s all you need to know – more over the jump!

Warmup
Welcome one and all to the roundup of all things Dubs. This is a celebration of our achievements, both big and small – and oh boy do we have some celebrations to get through this week!  Looking forward to this evening, the missus said we’re having game bird for our dinner – that’s a pheasant surprise.  Now then – some results?

DUNE Half Marathon
In case you didn’t notice, Sunday was Baltic. Absolutely bloody freezing. A strange build up to the first road race of the year, with constant worries of late cancellations! Running on it’s now traditional route from Newry to Dundalk (why won’t they bring back the old route), and crossing the border four times, this hilly event is always a challenge. More so, when you have to contend with snow, ice and a wind chill making it feel like -2 degrees! Let’s see who was crazy enough for this one:

First up – fifteen of us there, I think that quantities as an Errigle of Dubs taking part! Some cracking running there by everyone – most definitely not a day where you wanted to stop (for any reason). Some outstanding performances from Roisin, Anne and Anne Marie on Sunday – who all set new half marathon PBs (on that course?!), and a special mention to Birthday Girl Roisin who smashed 4 MINUTES off her time – amazing. Well done everyone, that was a toughie. Despite the cold, there was still time for a small gallery, including some of these shots:

  • Dune & Dusted: Roisin celebrates a PB (and her birthday)!

If a relaxing and enjoyable Saturday morning is your cup of tea, then it might be best to avoid us! Even with the ominous presence of rain, that failed to deter quite a number of Dubs from their ritual Saturday 5k. Everyone says that these things get easier – if only that were actually true. Let’s see who went where…

Not that you’d know from how well everyone got on this weekend – give yourselves a big pat on the back! Right grab your hat and get ready to tip it as we had two podium finishers this weekend in the form of Steven (at Falls) on the top step and Bernie (at Portursh) snatching the final spot. Setting some new course PBs this week were Bernie (at Portrush), Marie S (at Ormeau) and Paul (at Ormeau). Looks like no one this week tried out somewhere new!

Warmdown
You know how I am always on the lookout for photos, well, I think I need to get my eyes tested! I thought I spotted a Dub running in an XC event this weekend, but he was wearing a yellow top – so it couldn’t have been a Dub!!  Last summer I went on my first, and last, canal boat holiday. It was awful, they had had no manners – everyone just barges past!

Live long and prosper.
