Weekly Roundup: 2018-12-04

We got Run Forest Run, Seeley Cup and the parkrun over the jump!

Warmup
I’m allowed to start the Christmas music, right? T’is the season to be jolly and all that! We all know that this will fade when I catch on that there’s a roundup due out on Christmas Day! As we jog / run / sprint towards the business end of the year – the races become a little more focused, as you can see.  I was reading a journal during the week, and did you know that studies have proven that cows produce more milk when the farmer talks to them? It’s a case of in one ear and out the udder. So we had three events this week:

Run Forest Run #3: Loughgall
As the series continues, it moves to Armagh for the Loughgall event. In a change from the usual two laps around the course for the 10k race – this one was a figure 8 design, with a very undulating opening 5k, before crossing back past the start line for a more sedate second half – with a few additional rises thrown in for good measure! Just the one solo Dub taking part in this one:

Nice running Katherine – who also happened to be the Born 2 Run “Face of the Race” from the second event too! Never short of a smile for the cameras – never letting on just you’re feeling during a race! Cold one on Saturday but from all accounts a cracking wee event, and it doesn’t end there as the next event will take place on December 15th in Kilbroney Park in Newry.  Who asked for a photo?

Seeley Cup
Talking to a club legend over the weekend he asked, “How do you describe this race other than painful?” The countdown to Christmas begins in earnest with the annual pilgrimage to Ormeau Park for some pain. Three loops around the scenic park, nearly all flat – but exceptionally fast. They come from near and far for this one, it is always a sell-out – and there’s always some Dubs there for us to cheer on:

Saturday afternoon was all about the Dub guys this year with all our blue tops coming in within ten minutes of each other and all under the one-hour mark. Fantastic running gentlemen – this is a tough race, mentally, attracting the best local runners – so a top achievement rubbing shoulders with and achieving the great things crossing the line. Look out for a very special Dub who was part of our extensive cheering squad on the day:

parkrun
Some weekends we have lots of Dubs turning up at one single event – other weekends we have lots of Dubs turning up at lots of different and varied events. It was the latter this past Saturday – and the beauty of parkrun is that everyone can run against each other no matter which park they chose as their target for this week. We had Dubbers are eleven different events north and south of the border this week:

Outstanding running all round from our blue tops – pats on the back all round! Watch out for RSI this week as we begin to tip our hats. We had two first home with Claire at the Orangefield event and Judith at the Colin Glen event. Several Dubs took the second step of their podiums: Steven (at Wallace), Natalie (at Ormeau) and Nessa (at Dundalk). Two third place finishers in the shape of Marie (at Queen’s) and Niall (at Falls). While we had new course PBs set by Karen (at Victoria), Catherine (at Ecos), Steven (at Wallace), Paul McF (at Ormeau), James S (at Orangefield), Claire (at Orangefield) and Brona (at Sligo). Phew, I’m tired, well done everyone!

Warmdown
Safe travels everyone – and good running for the weekend, one final hurrah (race) for 2018. As our Anna would say “You’ve got this”. I’ve bene getting some work done at home and I told my contractor that I didn’t want carpeted steps – he just gave me a blank stair.

Live long and prosper.
