A Thank You from the Race Committee

A word of thanks from those of organised Friday’s Giant’s Trail Race.

On Friday, 29th July 2016, a sell-out crowd of 300 athletes participated in the Dub Runner’s Giants Trail Race. This race, in its second year, was blessed by the weather gods – thankfully no repeat of last year’s monsoon conditions.

The 6 mile course which is largely off road passes many landmarks including the Neolithic settlement at the Giant’s Ring and takes athletes over trails, through fields and the Lagan Tow path.

Brian Grimes, Chair of the Dub Runners, speaking at the prize giving, was delighted with how the event went: “We had a great race tonight and a lot of behind the scenes work goes into making a race a success. The club members got behind the event, the course itself needed 35 marshals, not to mention the massive catering operation organised by our members. We were lucky to have local running store Pure Running as our partner they have provided the prizes for the top three. When you are organising a race and want to keep the entry price low the partnership with Pure Running was invaluable. We were also fortunate to obtain generous sponsorship from Alan Brooke Cryospa. Also the use of the facilities at Dub Pavilion is perfect for a race like this!  The only thing we couldn’t organise was the weather and this year it came up trumps – perfect running conditions. The winning time tonight was very impressive, a new course record, while it was great to see Martsje Hell back to successfully defend her title. All in all a great evening and thanks to all the runners who took part and to Orangegrove AC for turning out in such numbers!

A big thanks again to all who made this event possible.  To all the Dub Runners who made it happen from the committee to the marshals, the wonderful Mags, Michael and Max – our timekeepers who kept us right, to the in-club caterers and indeed our very generous sponsors Pure Running and Alan Brooks Cryospa who we were delighted to be partnered with.  Pure Running are also offering 20% off Mizuna gear for all participants until 17th August!

Additional thanks to Coca Cola for providing water, Avonmore for milk, Tesco for providing help through their community initiatives and Conor Diver Design for the flyer design.

A very final and special thanks particularly to each and every athlete out there who attended and ran the course. You were absolutely amazing!
