When did you start running?
My first run in 30 years, also my first exercise, was on 19th October 2015 (on doctor’s orders). 4 months later I did my first parkrun in 25 min 13 sec where I was (rightly) was delighted.

Why did you start running?
I was very overweight, nearly 16 stone, and very very unfit. It was an easy decision. I loved running in school, especially cross country, and thought i might be able to take it up again.

Another legendary mid-air shot of Steven!

What is a typical training week for you?
Now I run 6 days a week, with a deliberately varied rota of runs, I would do 70k to 100k every week, I like to cross train with cycling as well. I also believe training includes sleep, diet and running on feel. I find it impossible to follow any running plan.

What is your favourite Dub training session?
My favorite Dub training is the GTR route – not (ever) fartleks of any description.

What has been your favourite race(s) to take part in?
My proudest moment in a dub top was 2018 BCM relays (with the ‘B’ squad), sub 3 hours where we really gave the ‘A’ squad a close call that year. Dublin marathon 2018 was THE race, I believed in myself and achieved. All parkruns are great, please ask me about my wava snore. I particularly enjoy all the Dub team events and anything that involves a road trip!

What are you running goals?
I change my running goals every year, but there has been a direction in my running – it’s getting further. This year running Colin Glen in under 19 minutes would be it.

Tell us something random about yourself that people might not know!
Im a very random person, i love old movies, old clothes, old vespa’s, i read a lot and dont watch TV, but the most random thing about me is my love of african music which i have collected for over 30 years.

Editor’s Note: Based on that last fact I can’t wait for the Dub BBQ at your place!
